Payne Bay


Payne Bay (48˚52'00" 123˚23'00" W side of Galiano I, Gulf Is). Flight Sgt Humphrey Owen Blake Payne, who enlisted in the RCAF at Vancouver but was from Galiano I, was killed in action Feb 14, 1943. He was a member of No 406 (Lynx) Squadron, the first Canadian night-fighter unit, which was initially based in Northumberland and equipped with Blenheim and Beaufighter aircraft. Payne is buried at Brookwood Military Cemetery near London, UK.
