BC INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (BCIT), the province's inaugural technical training school, welcomed the first 700 students to its $7-million BURNABY campus in 1964. The first principal was Cecil Roper, a MINING engineer. BCIT expanded rapidly and by the late 1990s the main campus occupied 55 buildings with satellite campuses on SEA ISLAND, in N VANCOUVER and downtown VANCOUVER where a $35-million complex opened in 1996.
