Baldy Hughes

BALDY HUGHES, 35 km south of PRINCE GEORGE, was the site of a Canadian Forces long-range radar facility from 1955 to 1988, part of the Pinetree Line. The base was named after Mt Baldy Hughes, which was earlier named after Baldy Hughes himself, a former CARIBOO WAGON ROAD stage driver, who operated a remount station at the base of the mountain for many years.
