Bat


BAT is a member of the mammal order Chiroptera ("hand-wing"). BC's bats are mostly small, furry, nocturnal creatures, usually brown, black or grey in colour, with large ears and well-developed teeth for chewing insects. The bat is the only mammal capable of sustained flight. Of the more than 1,000 known species worldwide, 16 are native to BC, all belonging to the family Vespertilionidae, which feed on insects.
