Billings Bay

BILLINGS BAY, on the west side of NELSON ISLAND in Malaspina Strait, 90 km northwest of VANCOUVER, was equipped with a government float, freight shed and post office from 1950 to 1970 to serve the 70-odd people who lived in the area and in neighbouring BLIND BAY. The decline of the Nelson Island LOGGING and quarrying industries in the 1960s prompted many residents to move away. William Thomas Billings was a Royal Navy surgeon who served on the BC coast in the 1840s.
