Birney, Alfred Earle


BIRNEY, Alfred Earle, writer, teacher (b 13 May 1904, Calgary; d 3 Sept 1995, Toronto). His family moved from Alberta to a fruit ranch near CRESTON when he was 12, and he went to school there. In 1922 he left for VANCOUVER to study chemistry at UBC. After graduate studies in Toronto and Berkeley, CA, he taught at the Univ of Utah and then completed a PhD at the Univ of London with a thesis on Chaucer.
