Britannia Mines


BRITANNIA MINES was a complex of 4 adjoining COPPER mines and associated mills on the east side of HOWE SOUND, 50 km north of VANCOUVER. Discovered in 1888 by Dr Alex Forbes, a local doctor and keen prospector, the copper deposits of the Britannia Mts were staked in 1897 by the trapper Oliver Furry. Mining began in 1905 by the Britannia Mining and Smelting Co, an arm of the Howe Sound Co.
