BROWN, Robert, botanist, explorer (b 23 Mar 1842, Camster, Scotland; d 26 Oct 1895, London, England). He arrived in VICTORIA from Scotland in May 1863 with a commission as seed collector for the BC Botanical Assoc of Edinburgh. After a year travelling on VANCOUVER ISLAND and the mainland, he was named leader of the VANCOUVER ISLAND EXPLORING EXPEDITION.
