Bulkley River


BULKLEY RIVER, 257 km, the main tributary of the SKEENA R, rises in Bulkley Lk about 40 km west of BURNS LAKE and loops north and west through the central Interior to join the Skeena at HAZELTON. The river is followed by the Yellowhead Hwy most of the way. Its lower portions are narrow and steep-sided, tumbling through canyons at HAGWILGET and MORICETOWN where FIRST NATIONS have fished the plentiful SALMON runs for thousands of years (see also FISHING, ABORIGINAL).
