EDMONDS, Henry Valentine, land speculator, government official (b 14 Feb 1837, Dublin, Ireland; d 14 June 1897, Vancouver). After arriving in BC in 1862 he plunged into a variety of business ventures in and around NEW WESTMINSTER. In 1867 he was appointed deputy sheriff, the first of a series of government positions he held, including GOLD commissioner and justice of the peace. In 1883 he became mayor of New Westminster.
