Elk Lakes Provincial Park


ELK LAKES PROVINCIAL PARK, 172.4 sq. km, is nestled high in the Front Ranges of the ROCKY MTS south of Banff, contiguous to Alberta's Peter Lougheed (Kananaskis) Provincial Park. Established in 1973, it contains the headwaters of the ELK R. Much of the park is above treeline and features outstanding panoramic mountain scenery, including numerous large alpine glaciers. Some wildlife can be observed in the alpine areas, notably grizzly BEARS and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep (see MOUNTAIN SHEEP)....
