EMISSARIES OF DIVINE LIGHT is a quasi-religious sect founded in 1940 by Lloyd Meeker, an American spiritualist. Meeker's philosophy attracted the wealthy British aristocrat Lord Martin Cecil (b 1909), who had come to 100 MILE HOUSE in 1930 to manage the Bridge Creek Ranch owned by his family. Cecil became a follower and in 1948 established a community on his property.
