EVANS, Arthur Herbert "Slim," labour activist (b 24 Apr 1890, Toronto, ON; d 13 Feb 1944, Vancouver). After training as a carpenter he moved to western Canada in 1911. There he got involved in radical labour politics as a member of the INDUSTRIAL WORKERS OF THE WORLD. He was working in the mines in KIMBERLEY when the One Big Union formed in 1919 and he became an organizer in the coalfields at Drumheller, AB.
