GREEN HILL PARK was a 9,679-tonne freighter that exploded and burned on 6 Mar 1945, in VANCOUVER's worst waterfront disaster. Eight men died in the accident. It started when fire broke out between decks while the freighter was loading at the CPR dock near the foot of Burrard St. The flames touched off the explosion, which blew out the sides of the vessel, shattering thousands of windows in the downtown area and hurling pieces of cargo as far as LUMBERMAN'S ARCH in STANLEY PARK.
