GRENFELL, Thornton, boatbuilder (b Nov 1911, N Vancouver; d 2 Nov 1971, Vancouver). He designed some of the finest wooden power boats on the coast. Raised on VANCOUVER ISLAND, where his father was a COAL miner, he quit school after grade 10 but later obtained certification as a naval architect.
