JOHNSTON, Robert "Bob," rower (b 1868, Elmsville, NB; d 1951). One of the most prominent VANCOUVER sports personalities of the 19th century, he dominated amateur and professional sculling in the Pacific Northwest in the 1890s. Johnston came to Vancouver in 1888 and began work as a boat builder (see BOATBUILDING).
