Kildonan


KILDONAN is an abandoned cannery village in Uchucklesit Inlet, an arm of BARKLEY SOUND on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND. The original cannery was built in 1903 and acquired in 1910 by Wallace Bros, whose owners named it after their hometown in Scotland. The cannery and associated buildings stood on pilings next to the shore and during the heyday of the pilchard fishery in the 1920s and 1930s (see SARDINE, PACIFIC), the population reached 300.
