METCHOSIN  () , district municipality, pop 4,795 (2006), is on southern VANCOUVER ISLAND overlooking JUAN DE FUCA STRAIT, west of VICTORIA between COLWOOD and SOOKE. It is part of the Greater Victoria region. Once an AGRICULTURAL area, it has become a residential suburb of the capital while retaining some of its rural characteristics.
