Montrose

MONTROSE, village, pop 1,067 (2001), is situated in the Beaver Valley, 11 km east of TRAIL in the W KOOTENAY. Formerly known as Beaver Falls, the area was developed during WWII as a residential community by A.G. Cameron, a Trail lawyer, and the Columbia Mining & Smelting Co, now COMINCO. The name refers to a popular place in Cameron's native Scotland. The community was managed by an improvement association until it was incorporated as a village on 22 June 1956.
