O'Neill, J. Wiggs


O'NEILL, J. Wiggs, riverboat pioneer, writer (b 1882, Barkerville; d 1964). As a youngster he moved with his family to the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS and then to Port Simpson (see FORT SIMPSON), where his stepfather worked for the HBC. Wiggs began working on a SKEENA R sternwheeler in 1898 and remained on the river until the end of the steamboat era in 1911.
