PUGET SOUND NAVIGATION COMPANY was founded in the late 1890s, based in Seattle. Until 1927 it was owned by Joshua Green. As well as operating steamship service in Puget Sound, it offered passenger service to VICTORIA and VANCOUVER for many years, in competition with the CPR's PRINCESS LINE. During the so-called "Rate War" of 1908–9 the two companies competed fiercely for business on the Victoria–Seattle route, dropping their one-way fare as low as 25 cents.
