Quesnel Forks


QUESNEL FORKS (originally spelled Quesnelle Forks) is an abandoned townsite in the mountains at the forks of the Quesnel R near the west end of QUESNEL LK. Settled in 1860 and officially surveyed by the ROYAL ENGINEERS in 1861, it was the first of the CARIBOO gold camps. Briefly, it was the largest settlement in the mainland colony, but as the GOLD RUSH moved on so did most of the miners.
