SALAMANDER is a small, LIZARD-like, tailed amphibian found in moist wooded areas. Salamanders are both aquatic and terrestrial; the terrestrial species hibernate during the colder months. They feed principally on worms and INSECTS, though larger species also prey on other amphibians, mice and SLUGS. Although they cannot hear, they are sensitive to vibrations.
