Salmon, Atlantic


SALMON, ATLANTIC (Salmo salar) are not native to BC but the species is raised commercially in netpens by the salmon farming industry, mainly in the waters off western and northern VANCOUVER ISLAND (see AQUACULTURE, FIN FISH). Surveys conducted in the 1990s discovered small numbers of Atlantic salmon fry in several Vancouver Island rivers.
