Social Credit Party


SOCIAL CREDIT PARTY ("Socreds") formed in the wake of the June 1952 provincial election. Its forerunner, the SOCIAL CREDIT LEAGUE OF BC, surprised everyone by winning 19 seats, one more than its nearest opponent, the CCF, and enough to form a minority government. During the election Rev Ernest Hansell led the League, but he had been chosen only for the duration of the campaign. After the vote the elected Socreds met and chose W.A.C. BENNETT to be leader and ultimately PREMIER.
