SPONGE is a primitive multi-cellular aquatic animal of the phylum Porifera that filters food from the water as it drifts by. Sponges occur in many colours, including white and black, and in many forms, including thin encrusting mats, attached spheres and erect tube-like, vase-like or branching growths reaching heights of 2 m or more.
