Turtle


TURTLE is a small reptile with a soft body encased in a hard, protective shell into which it retracts when threatened. Instead of teeth it possesses a pointed beak to tear at its food. The female lays eggs in a small depression dug in the ground. During the winter turtles hibernate; the freshwater species native to BC are seen most often in warm weather basking in the sun.
