Yip Sang


YIP SANG, VANCOUVER Chinatown pioneer, entrepreneur (b 6 Sept 1845, Canton, China; d 21 July 1927, Vancouver). He left China in 1864 and went to California, where he worked at a variety of jobs. In 1881 he came north to work as a paymaster for CHINESE labourers on the CPR. When the railway was finished he settled in Vancouver and established Wing Sang Co, an import-export business.
