D’Arcy Island (48˚34'00" 123˚17'00" S of Sidney I, Haro Str, N of Victoria), D’Arcy Shoals (48˚34'00" 123˚18'00" W of D’Arcy I). Sub-Lt John D’Arcy (1831–84) was an officer aboard HMS Herald on its surveying expedition to the Pacific, 1852–54. He later commanded HMS Osborne, a paddle yacht (1865–69), and the troopships Adventure (1874) and Jumna (1875–78). D’Arcy was promoted capt in 1869.
