Darwin Point


Darwin Point (52˚34'00" 131˚37'00" Entrance to Darwin Sd), Darwin Sound (52˚40'00" 131˚43'00" Between Moresby I and Lyell I, QCI). Named in 1878 by George M Dawson of the Geological Survey of Canada after Charles Robert Darwin (1809–82), the pre-eminent naturalist of the 19th century, whose groundbreaking theory of evolution was explained in an 1859 book, On the Origin of Species. Dawson named a number of features in the area after famous 19th-century scientists.
