Dawkins Point


Dawkins Point (55˚16'00" 129˚48'00" E side of Observatory Inlet, S of Stewart). Capt Richard Dawkins (d 1896) was cdr of HMS Zealous, based at Esquimalt as the flagship of Rear Adm Hon George Hastings, cdr-in-chief of the Pacific Station, 1866–69. Dawkins served in China and Indonesia in the 1840s, and in the Crimean War, and retired as a rear adm in 1878. Nearby Richards Point is also named for him. W
