Dawley Passage


Dawley Passage (49˚09'00" 125˚48'00" S of Fortune Channel, E of Meares I, Clayoquot Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Walter Thomas Dawley (1860–1944), from Ont, was a trader at Clayoquot and also the region’s first mining recorder from 1898 to the late 1930s. In 1891, with partner Thomas Stockham, he built a store from salvaged shipwreck lumber on Stockham I, opposite the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation village of Opitsat on Meares I.
