Discovery Point


Discovery Point (49˚35'00" 126˚33'00" E entrance to Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). This HMS Discovery, not to be confused with the one in the Discovery I entry, was consort to HMS Resolution on Capt James Cook’s third great expedition, 1776–80. A refurbished 270-tonne collier, built at Whitby as the Diligence in 1774, it sailed under Cdr Charles Clerke and, following Clerke’s death, Lt John Gore, then Lt James King.
