Ditmars Point


Ditmars Point (52˚44'00" 128˚34'00" W side of Tolmie Channel, Princess Royal I). Lt Eric Soulis Ditmars, an RCNVR officer from Vancouver, was serving aboard HMS Salvia when he was killed in action, aged 26, on Dec 24, 1941. The corvette was torpedoed and sunk by a U-boat (U-568) in the Mediterranean off the coast of Egypt; 106 lives were lost (the ship was carrying survivors from another vessel). His name is inscribed on the Halifax Memorial.
