Donald Island


Donald Island (51˚41'00" 128˚06'00" Off NW tip of Calvert I, Hakai Passage). Capt Colin Degge Donald, OBE (1899–1974), was born in Chemainus and joined the RCN in 1917. He spent much of his career on the BC coast (part of it in charge of HMCS Armentières; see Armentières Channel) and was responsible for the formation of the Fishermen Reserve Service in BC in 1939. He later commanded the RCN destroyers Annapolis and Ottawa, then took charge of NS refitting base HMCS Shelburn, 1942–45....
