Dong Chong Bay


Dong Chong Bay (50˚34'40" 126˚43'30" N side of Hanson I, E of Alert Bay, Queen Charlotte Str). Dong Chong (1906–91) ran a grocery store at Alert Bay from 1928 until he retired in 1965. In the 1940s, along with partners Harold Henderson and Don Mackie, he ventured into the logging business. This bay served as the booming area for the group’s Hanson I operations. The name, though long established, was only recently adopted, in 1997.
