Dorothy Rock


Dorothy Rock (50˚23'00" 125˚46'00" Vere Cove, W end of W Thurlow I, Johnstone Str). Named in 1899, in association with Vere Cove, by Cdr Morris Smyth, in charge of survey duties on the BC coast with HMS Egeria, 1898–1900. Dorothy and Vera Thurlow were his nieces, the daughters of Maj Reginald Thurlow of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. It is not known if there was a connection to Lord Edward Thurlow, the 18th-century British lord chancellor, after whom the Thurlow Is are named, or how Vera became...
