Douglas Inlet


Douglas Inlet (52˚56'55" 132˚12'47" S of Moore Channel, W of Mitchell Inlet, QCI). Dr John Douglas (d 1855) was the RN surgeon aboard HMS Thetis during its 1851–53 sojourn on the Pacific Station. The inlet was originally named Douglas Hbr in 1852 by Capt Augustus Kuper, cdr of the Thetis, which had been sent to the Charlottes to do survey work and maintain law and order in the wake of a minor gold discovery at Mitchell Inlet just to the E.
