Driver Point


Driver Point (49˚26'43" 126˚16'08" S entrance to Steward-son Inlet, Clayoquot Sd). HMS Driver, a 957-tonne paddlewheel gunboat built in 1841, was the RN vessel in which Richard Blanshard, unhappy first colonial gov of Vancouver I, was forced to live for several weeks upon arrival at Victoria in 1850. The 6-gun steamship, under Cdr Charles Johnson, had brought him on the Panama–Victoria portion of his long journey from England, but he was snubbed by James Douglas and the other HBC officers...
