Duntze Head


Duntze Head (48˚25'52" 123˚26'22" E entrance to Esquimalt Hbr, S end of Vancouver I). Capt John Alexander Duntze (1806–82) was cdr of HMS Fisgard on the Pacific Station, 1843–47. He went on to attain the rank of adm in 1865. Lt Cdr James Wood of HMS Pandora, who surveyed Esquimalt Hbr in 1847, named many of its features after the officers of the Fisgard, which was an occasional early visitor to the area.
