Freberg Islet


Freberg Islet (53˚30'00" 130˚01'00" W of Anger I, Principe Channel, E of Banks I). Flying Officer Philip Gustave R Freberg, from New Westminster, was killed in action on Apr 11, 1943, when his Stirling heavy bomber, part of No 7 (RAF) Squadron, was shot down en route to Frankfurt. He was awarded the DFC in Sept 1942 when he survived the loss of another Stirling, parachuted into Holland and made his way back to Britain. He is buried at Hollerich Communal Cemetery in Luxembourg.
