Rennell Reef


Rennell Reef (53˚23'00" 132˚45'00" Entrance to Rennell Sd), Rennell Sound (53˚24'00" 132˚44'00" SW side of Graham I, QCI). Rennell Sd was named by British fur trader George Dixon, who, as capt of the Queen Charlotte, was one of the leaders of an early expedition to the PNW in 1786–87. The name, which appears on a map of NW America published in 1789 in Dixon’s Voyage Round the World, commemorates James Rennell (1742–1830), an English geographer, historian and pioneer oceanographer.
