Richard III Bank


Richard III Bank (54˚01'00" 132˚34'00" In Alexander Narrows, S of Virago Sd, N side of Graham I, QCI). Named in 1907 by Capt Frederick Learmonth of HMS Egeria during a re-survey of Naden Hbr. The Richard III was an old ship that had been converted to an ore carrier and used to haul coal from Alaska. In Dec 1906 it grounded on the rocks of Virago Sd; the following winter it was towed by Haida salvagers into Naden Hbr and beached near Bain Point, just SW of the bank. The Haida people know this...
