Ripon Island


Ripon Island (51˚28'00" 127˚39'00" S of Walbran I, N entrance to Rivers Inlet), Ripon Point (51˚19'00" 127˚32'00" N entrance to Smith Inlet, E of Smith Sd, N of Port Hardy). Capt John Walbran, coastal historian and cdr of the lighthouse tender Quadra, named the point in 1903 after his birthplace, the small cathedral city of Ripon in N Yorkshire. Walbran attended historic Ripon Grammar School, where his grandfather, Rev Thomas Horsfall, was a master for many years. W
