Romulus Reef


Romulus Reef (49˚01'00" 123˚35'00" W side of Porlier Pass, between Galiano I and Valdes I, Gulf Is). This feature was originally known as Romulus Rk, after the 1,562-tonne German freighter Romulus, under Capt Wilhelm Berndt, which struck it in 1893 while heading for the open ocean with a load of coal from Nanaimo. The ship made it to Esquimalt Hbr where it was beached, partly unloaded and then repaired at the graving dock. The hitherto-unknown hazard was named by Capt John Walbran of CGS...
