Rosenfeld Rock


Rosenfeld Rock (48˚48'10" 123˚02'15" NE of East Point, off E end of Saturna I, Gulf Is). Named after the US ship John Rosenfeld, under Capt James Baker, which ran aground on this obstacle in 1886 while being towed from Nanaimo, laden with coal, by the tug Tacoma. The tug, commanded by Capt Cameron, drew far less water than the larger vessel and passed safely over the rock, but the 2,057-tonne Rosenfeld could not.
