Routh Islet


Routh Islet (49˚43'15" 124˚10'55" In Blind Bay, S entrance to Jervis Inlet, E side of Str of Georgia). Named in 1990 to honour Motor Mechanic John Meredith Routh of the RCNVR, from Vancouver, who died on Feb 14, 1945, aged 28, at Ostend, Belgium, during a disastrous harbour fire that destroyed five of the eight vessels in the 29th Canadian Motor Torpedo Boat Flotilla and killed 63 of the flotilla’s seamen.
