Russell Island


Russell Island (48˚45'00" 123˚24'00" Entrance to Fulford Hbr, off SE side of Saltspring I, Gulf Is). The origin of this name is not definitively known, though it may commemorate British PM Lord John Russell. RN surveyor Capt George Richards named Cape Russell (qv) on NW Vancouver I after the politician about 1862, and Russell I first appears on Admiralty charts around the same time.
