Three Greenhorns

THREE GREENHORNS were the first white settlers in what became VANCOUVER's West End. John MORTON, his brother-in-law Samuel BRIGHOUSE and their friend William Hailstone arrived in BC in 1862. Later that year they bought a 2.2 sq km parcel of land between ENGLISH BAY and BURRARD INLET and began making bricks. The men made no money; one by one they sold out. The West End was developed as a residential area by the CPR in the 1880s.
