Brighouse, Samuel


BRIGHOUSE, Samuel, pioneer settler (b 13 Jan 1836, Lindley, England; d there 31 July 1913). He arrived in NEW WESTMINSTER in 1862 with his cousin John MORTON and their friend William Hailstone, the so-called THREE GREENHORNS. They took up land in what became VANCOUVER's West End, built the first cabin there and tried their hand at raising cows and making bricks. Brighouse moved to a farm on LULU ISLAND but later returned to Vancouver and when it was incorporated as a city he was elected to city...
